Green was destined for success from the start of his tenure at the University of Kentucky. As a freshman he proved deserving of his spot on the team, as he won the 60-yard-dash at an indoor track meet. This was just the beginning of Green's successful career as a Wildcat. During his college years, he earned eight individual Souteastern Conference chamionship titles, six All-American honors and was considered a contendor in a number of world-class competitions. In 1971, Green was ranked as the world's fastest human. Between 1968 and 1971, Green definitely left his mark on the University of Kentucky athletics. He proved himself to be competitive both on and off the track, as he was also the first African-American athlete to walk away from the University of Kentucky with a degree.
